Did you contact the SSN department in person or called them.? Its better to go in person and get hold of the supervisor.
My brother had the same issue, but after 2 weeks of waiting, he used to go to the local SSN opffice everyday and somehow was able to get hold of the supervisor. The Supervisor called him once they got the info in their system and also gave him the number. The actual card came after few days in mail. I would suggest you to contact the local SSA office Super/Admin and escalate your case saying you badly need the number to start working.

My 140 was filed in Nov 2006. I had to wait 2 full years before my case got approved in Nov 2008.
My lawyer did not even open a service request. She was against infopass too. Her reason was that these would work for any other case except 140.
Based on my experience, I would recommend the following:

These calls with Ombudsman are important because they are attended by USCS and probably other officials from DHS. It is a time to talk about policy matters, recommendations, response of these recommendations from USCIS, and delays in their implementation. That can help bring positive changes for everyone rather than questions about individual cases. Just my opinion.
I do not doubt that these calls serve a purpose. What I am not very happy about is what transpires after the call. I look for some kind of gratification or closure after a certain issue has been raised. When we participate in such calls with Ombudsman, and even when individuals focus on their own issues, it would not be too difficult to identify some of the generic problems. From the calls this time and the past one, I would be surprised it they did not see customer service and processing times as major issues. Not to say these are high priority problems but that most likely would be the summary of two calls.
But, what happens after that? We do not see what procedures are in place/discussions to rectify these problems.

Consider this, I am an H1B and my perm has not been filed yet. I have been contributing to the IV posts(not monetary so far)...and haven't asked any question/query myself yet..... what do you want me to do pay money to reply to a post where a guy needs help on how to complain to DOL or if there is a link on CNN and I want to share with fellow IVians??
Yes this is discussion forum but we have Job to get it done through our members. if members doesn't help us financially then we are loosing our edge. Unfortunately, legal immigration doesnot have any representation in the senate to work for our interests.

It's been horribly long 10 years and many complications along the way but my journey seemed to have reached the end. This morning I got a magically enchanted email:
Application Type: I485 , APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS
Current Status: Card production ordered.
I am still at awe and can't believe ... probably will never do until I get the physical card.
For those interested:

I will be travelling to India for 3 week trip and will be coming back on Oct 12 ( My current AP expires on Oct 30 2008).
Since H1B visa stamp already expired on my passport , I would like to use my AP while reentry on Oct 12 at the port of entry .
Even though I have approved H1 B documents , expires on March 25 2009. But Iam not planning for HIB stamping due to my short trip
I have not used my EAD And I want continue be on H1 B status by applying extension of H1 B as soon as my arrival .
do you see and problem with this plan of REINSTATE MY HIB status by extension , since I would like to be on HIB status till I get my green card
My atty say go fo H1 stamping as H1 extention (REINSTATE MY HIB may need extenstive processing and apply status change from AOS to H1B visa
Iam with same employer for 6 years and continue with them till I have card in hand :)

only i have received approved I-797 with company Y on Jun 5, 2008.
addition to it, i have a letter (from my attorney) from an expert opinion who is the Professor from University of Maryland on my Education and Work Experience. correct me if this is wrong.

So what you are saying is i can have 2 H1-b's only if both the jobs are part time. If any one of the two is full time, then it would be illegal. But here's the question. If i file for a 2nd H1-B, the INS should reject my 2nd H1-B request as i already have a full time job on my 1st H1-B. I guess this would be the only way to find out, since no one is sure what the law is.Is there some kind of INS documented law or statements to confirm this??

My LCA Job title is "Computer and Information Systems Manager" , O-net Job Code 11-3021.00. Can I take a job of "Computer Systems Engineers/Architects" , O-net Job Code 15-1099.02. Is it not considered as similar occupation?

In conservative view, though both are in same field, both are not similar occupation becuse one is "engineer" and other is "manager". Engineer skills and responsibilites and duties are different than manager. So it will not qualify to AC21 portability. For similar occupation classification, both should be in same family in Onet or it should have first 2 numbers in the code should be same.

The fact that USCIS has approved a petition or that a Consul has issued a visa is evidence of admissibility, but is not determinitive.
Thus, if a B-2 visitor is unable to prove that she is a bona fide visitor with plans to return abroad to an unrelinquished domicile, the CBP officer has the authority deny her entry. If the applicant has a visa (as opposed to applying to enter pursuant to the visa waiver program), she has the right to request a hearing before an Immigration Judge. However, she could be detained in immigration custody for several days or even weeks waiting for the hearing.
A similar problem would not arise for someone with a valid H-1 visa because H-1 visa holders are not required to have a home abroad to which they intend to return. However, there could be other reasons for an H-1 visa holder to be denied entry such as a minor criminal record or suspiscion of immigration or visa fraud.
