Crap... that is a freaking steel and well there just went the resell value of everyone's first gen iPad, including me. Oh well.
Only until the remaining stock of Gen 1's sell out, then things should get better. I have a 64GB 3G Gen 1 and a 64GB 3G Gen 2 and I still think the original model is perfectly fine.

I should probably pre-order it. At least I can get Blue or Black at launch, instead of having to wait. :)

So what is the alleged "NSFW" security hole? The article never says anything about that. Is it the same "hole" that a USB keychain drive has - that someone could copy sensitive data to the phone, which could then be stolen? Is it because joining a corporate Wi-Fi network could introduce a backdoor through which malware could attack? Something else?
Or is it just paranoia from someone who thinks all devices must have system-crippling amounts of antivirus software in order to avoid being presumed a death trap?

"If you play with Billy down the street, we're not going to be your friends any more! Nah Nah."
Target and Walmart sound like they are run by bratty jealous kids. Besides, I can't see how movie downloads are going to threaten DVD sales anyway. HBO didn't stop VHS sales. Netflix hasn't stopped DVD sales. Cable on Demand hasn't stopped DVD sales either. People want to buy things. They want to own them. They want something to hold in their hand with pictures and a booklet. Sure people will download TV shows or some movies to watch on their iPods on a commute, but it's not going to kill the DVD market. The only thing likely to kill the DVD market is this bogus format war going on between Sony and Toshiba. Now noone is going to want to buy any HD format because they dont want their purchase to be obsolete next year.
On another note, how is this kind of corporate bullying legal? Doesn't the government actually try to enforce any antitrust laws any more? (rhetoric question)

Insurance rates based on mileage driven are also gaining traction.
This question is always asked on Canadian vehicle insurance applications, but everyone lies.
Same thing with the "do you use your vehicle to drive to and from work"?
Lies, all lies. ;)
But, I do favour users fees.
If gas taxes don't cover that in the age of the electric car, then we have GPS in cars to record, and report when prompted, mileage driven.

Parents need to do their part, but government needs to try to protect from the greed that that brought us to the mess we are in today....
Oh sure, like the banks for example.... oh wait, the government actually gave them our tax money!

They don't come any sexier than an American Corvette
My favorite 1966 Vette:

I also liked the 1966 Camaro:

Honestly, I'm looking around my room right now and the only things that I think were made in America are books and software...
Pretty much everything was made in Japan or China.
I remember 1965 when made-in-Japan was viewed with derision. Not to imply Japanese made products were shabby, it was mostly prejudice. My first made-in-japan product was a small battery powered transistor radio. Regarding home-made US products, it's been down hill ever since.

With regard to booting:
I think a lot of people in here are also looking over the fact that the card reader is on the USB bus. Meaning the speeds you'd be limited to would be that of USB 2.0. Internal 5400rpm boot drive would still be faster.
I believe its part of the ethernet controller chip.

I wish this would begin our troop withdrawal from Afghanistan. Simply a money pit.
The fact is, little will likely change. We'll still keep buying cold war era weapons like the F-22.
Trillions of dollars on all those cold war fighter jets and all we have to show for it is ****ing Top Gun. :D
WORTH IT :D.
But seriously terrorism is like crime, you can't get rid of crime by arresting all the criminals. You have to determine the root causes and alleviate those as much as possible.
But it's a lot easier (and often better received) to just blow **** up, so we usually do that instead.

Anyways, if you don't want to sell something to somebody for WHATEVER reason, no matter how ridiculous, shouldn't that be your right?
Nope. There needs to be a rational reason for denying someone service.
I can accept denying service to a customer who hasn't bathed in a year and is driving other customers away because of their horrendous body odor.
I can't accept denying service to a customer based solely on the color of their skin.

Well software all is mostly OK, but there is a lot of stuff still in Mac OS X (which is now in the root of Old Categories) still to be moved.

Both my friend Cass and I are playing SC II on Late 2009 MBP 15", and we cannot get voice chat to work. I am running 10.6.3, he is running 10.5.8 (it's still .8, isnt it?)

For those wondering, you can get a beta key if you preorder the game. You get a key immediately if you preorder in person at Gamestop, and I know that Amazon does it online but it may take a few days for them to email it to you. I went and preordered yesterday and got in on it.
My brand new 13" MBP with the 320m runs things pretty well, though I think the screen is a bit small for an RTS. At times I had problems telling the units apart unless I zoomed in pretty close, but at that point you're not exactly poised for a quick response to anything. Going to try it on my desktop later with a 22" screen.

I don't think anyone doubts the machine can do the expose effect (the iPad 1 does it in Safari just fine).
There are plenty of reasons it might have been turned down for their final switcher implementation. One, the final iOS allows a variable number of programs to remain open depending on their memory requirements. The expose implementation implies that 9 can be open. That's inconsistent UI. Two, as others have mentioned, you can't always tell the difference between apps at a glance from little screenshots. So they went with icons in the end.
It can be scrollable. And can't icons just be overlaid in the corner a'la Lion Mission Control?
