Of course mine are speculation, I brought the argument up because I'd like to hear someone else's opinion.
Rumors are saying the next iPhone iteration could be having the same package of the current iPhone. I'm bringing two facts up, the A5 die is bigger then the A4 as both are 45nm. And at the iPad2 keynote they said how could they manage to get the same hours of battery life with a much powerful processor, the answer was that their engineer had a workaround - later to be found an additional pack of battery.

The only redesign they had to do for the battery is fit it in an enclosure 33% thinner. The charge capacity is the exact same. Just because the processor is more powerful does not mean it uses more power as well. The more powerful a processor, the more the processor can sit idle, saving battery life.

Considered this I think that Apple will redesign the internals of the new iteration if they are going to use the same package.

That's a given. They've changed the internals every single generation of iPhone.

About the network, this: Full coverage by 2013.
Second of all: Verizon. What about AT&T?

AT&T roll out begins this year. Full coverage is not a requisite for roll out. Do you honestly think AT&T had full 3G coverage when the iPhone 3G came out? The area where I'm from, Southern Illinois, only got 3G in the past year. Verizon is rolling out LTE there before the end of the year.

Third and I repeat this, you guys should not be considered special compared to the rest of the world.

We are apple's home market and their largest one. If you look at iPhone sales, we represent 40% of them, a significant chunk. iPhones represent 50% of their revenue, so domestic iPhone sales represent 20% of Apple's revenue. That's a huge chunk for one product. If they think LTE coverage is good enough and the power draw of an LTE radio is worth it, they'll deploy it.

The fact that Apple used GSM technology for the first iPhone was infact that they could rollout their product to other countries as CDMA is not adopted as much as GSM worldwide. The same applies to LTE/4G. There is no reason of adding hardware that can be adopted by a quarter of the customers if not less that that. It's a waste of money in design and implementation, let alone that even Apple is not willing to make the leap with compromise that are not willing to make by adopting this fairly new technology.

LTE will actually bring about greater compliance, as AT&T's and Verizon LTE networks will use the exact same protocol.

Europe will be using the 800 MHz range for their LTE/4G deployment, so there's not even necessarily a guarantee there will be a one size fits all LTE radio (much like T-mobile and AT&T handsets require different 3G radios despite both being GSM carriers). If that's the case, the deployment of LTE there will be irrelevant as it will necessitate a new radio regardless.

    Hey Gary... don't worry.

Had it myself for the first time just over 6 weeks ago for major surgery.
It's not like sleep at all: no dreaming, no tossing & turning etc.

In my case, the anaesthetist was in a small room off from the main theater. I was wheeled in on my bed. Some lines were inserted into my left hand and forearm, he disappeared behind me to check something... we chatted for a few seconds and then... I woke up in a large sunny room.

It will seem like a handful of seconds will have passed since the anaesthetist induced full anaesthesia and waking up in the recovery room. Depending on the surgery they will have already put you on post-op pain relief and you may just feel fine and dandy like I did. Upon awakening, they will probably ask you a few simple questions to ascertain your mental state.

Afterwards, you may be thirsty -- don't gulp water, though. It can leave you feeling nauseous. If you can manage it, it's also quite nice to have something a little starchy yet easy to digest like half a banana or a cookie, if doctors allow you to take food.

Afterwards, I was on a morphine drip for 5 days and oral painkillers for the entire time in hospital -- I'm still on them now but a much-reduced dose...

It's important to mobilise yourself as soon as the nurses let you. Take little gentle walks around the place -- gets the circulation, respiration and digestive system up and running.

The "Apple Tax" is largely just in the mind. PC Magazine, and several tech blogs, have had comparisons and found that a Mac is cheaper than machines from some Windows machines (I think Sony and Dell were more expensive but I could be wrong). Out of five tested, the Mac was in the middle.

I did the math, and gave it up after I had consistently lousy experiences with every version of Windows I used, with hardware from a variety of well known manufacturers.

I will happily spend the imaginary premium if it provides with a stable operating system.

i bet they had people there with MBA's from good schools running financial what if's and telling management to avoid digital because they will make less money due to not selling the film or anything other than the camera

They did not avoid digital at all, in fact they were an early entrant to digital. The problem was that they were used to having a lucrative near-monopoly in film, a fat side business in film processing and a nice low-end camera business built around proprietary "connvenience" film packaging. They were now facing aggressive consumer electronics companies who were used to relently feature upgrades and short model lifecycles. Moreover, they could not rely on their film dominance to keep competitors at a disadvantage. In other words, they had to change their business model completely-- from near monopoly to completely competitive-- in order to success in the new business. Only a fraction of companies manage to do this successfully.

Keep in mind, also, due to the increased competition and lack of a film component, that the opportunity for Kodak in digital was much smaller than their film and related businesses. It's very hard to manage a shrinking company, and even harder if you are also trying to reinvent yourself.

I'm not too familiar with Ruby. What is it?
It's useful to add pronunciation to the text for different language speakers, or usually in JP language papers so someone can know how to speak a particular Chinese character.

It may be obscure but its very useful, especially if it was built in to Cocoa just like spelling...

I concur with JayInNJ. I have been using the BlackBerry version with my Storm (1st-gen) on Verizon for two years now. OTA maps have not been an issue for me in all this time. Of course, I don't travel to the middle of nowhere. So, YMMV. I'm planning on getting the iPhone when it launches on VZW and will most likely get the Garmin app for it. $40 for the iOS version with additional features (traffic, Lane Assist, etc.) is a great deal compared to the $75 I spent for the BB version.

This has been available for over 2 years on the Blackberry and it also downloads the maps.

Apple has periods in which they allow people to apply for AppleSeed accounts. The purpose is to help them test their OS updates and releases in environments they are not able to replicate themselves. To this end I am not sure how your friend can 'get' you a seed account, legitimately. if you go the AppleSeed page you are generally greeted with the message

"We are not seeking new participants. You must have an invitation in order to log in."

That being said, anything relating to the seeds you would download are covered by NDA (non-disclosure agreement) and are legally binding. So your answer would be you cannot, legally, talk about those issues in any other forum then the one they provide.

well apple did do some stuff about osx86project.

But anyway it would be nearly impossibly to track and go after someone with the semi widely distributed wwdc beta as people are allowed to install it on laptops for one so that right there leads to a multitude of different ip's from just going from hotspot to hotspot and two I can't imagine apple had people write down their ip's when they signed up for wwdc and many times you do have a changing ip so that whole argument is out the window.

Now if apple really wanted to go after the leakers they could have made it all download based and embedded a serial number in the download corresponding to the adc membership and a counter appended to the end. Then when they saw multiple copies getting the update all with the same serial number then they could go after the originating adc membership holder. But otherwise they cannot track you based on your IP thats just foolish to think as they can't determine legal copy from illegal copy.

For the record I do not have it but I wouldn't feel worried about getting it.

I'll take the Fonz mantra here: If you're cool, you know it and don't have to tell everyone. I think the guy that wrote that article is probably a moron in a depressed state trying to make himself feel better.

    LOL!

Interesting. I don't have a degree, dropped college, not vegetarian and I don't wear designer clothes or read newspapers.

I guess I don't fit the trend. But interesting non the less.

Are you sure you're trying your best? :D

What I learned today: Mac users are hipster douches who think they are tech savvy, but still too dumb to run Windows.

I actually choked when I read this. Best post in thread.

    i can't feel...my face.

if i use both, am i a double douche?

Maybe you have a split personality. Is your name Sybil by any chance? :D

 You're only making it sad.

Nice ride. Which model and year?

Yeah, lack of incremental updates for the Mac App Store in particular is a bit of a problem.

Software Update is still in Lion. Even though you download it from the app store, incremental updates are handled as normal.

NYC and San Francisco have toyed with the ideas but so far nothing has come of it. It takes a strong political will to make it happen I'm sure. In the end though, I can hardly see any other viable options for large cities.

The only city I've ever been to which isn't congested is Singapore - and they have excellent public transport, very wide roads, very high taxes on car ownership (this gives some idea (http://www.expatsingapore.com/content/view/1161)) and road pricing in the centre.

Office for Mac or Office for Windows? Easy decision.

I haven't opened VMWare Fusion for months, since I installed Office for Mac.

    YMMV.

Sure, some of us will have specific needs that are only available on Windows. But for most of us, the last thing we need that requires Windows (that we haven't already moved over to a native OSX solution) is Office.

Office for Mac and Office for Windows have been leap-frogging for some time, so you're going to have a slightly newer version depending on which platform you are on. Currently, the newer version is Mac. Next year I suppose it will be Windows.

But in any case, it's certainly no longer true (though it once was) that Office for Mac is the ugly step-sister.

I agree with this, and will add a bit more from my perspective. Office for Windows is still noticeably faster for very large calculations, and overall works a bit better. However, the gap isn't so great that I run Fusion anymore to use the Windows version. It's "good enough" now on the Mac and I couldn't be happier with Office 2011. I've been using 2011 since it came out and it's been rock solid. I frequently work with documents several hundred thousand rows long too.

Apple could easily make a rack server that had 16 processors, with a kick arse OpenGL card and teach SGI a lesson. They don't have the market for that though...yet!

The Intel Itanium. Granted, it's not for consumers per se, but it's still for high-end consumers. Compare that with Power Mac G4s.

NT can do up to 32 processors per machine as of the Windows .NET family.

No...it's NOT u/linix sorry...because "web page servers" are not the only computers in data centers!

Hum, you do understand all those big financial institutions and banks don't actually use Windows server for their big enterprise level CRMs and other important packages right ?

Unix and Linux are used for way more than just "web server". Maybe you should try working 1 day in IT before you talk about IT. ;)

Of course, you probably don't want to hear the truth and wouldn't accept it anyhow, keep believing in Windows' importance because that's what you see on the desktop, I'll keep working on real OSes in my cushy IT job far away from anything made by Redmond.

Maybe this should be a new feature for the folding widget: to look when you will be overtaken by someone or when you overtake someone.
Actually, I should be able to do it, you would have to choose your targets yourself though. I will not be able to provide you with the closest threats and/or overtakes, but if you know who you want to track, it's not that hard to show/calculate.
I'll first clean up the code, add detailed stats, Then i'll redesign the layout and incorporate the threats/overtakes (this might take a while - busy period @ work).

Now if someone would post this widget in this (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=128541) thread i'd be a happy man. I would do it myself, in fact i almost did...
Come to think of it, asking is the same as posting it myself but... bah.. lol prrt <over and out> sry

Apps all run in the same format and screen size. Even the new retina display is only an enlargement of the original format, but shown at the higher resolution. Apps running on the iPad run at the native format, or specifically for the iPad format, which is different code.

If Apple introduced a different sized screen, that would be a pain to the installed base and app developer. For this reason, I don't think it is true.

Is it not possible that perhaps you could have a smaller screen with a higher pixel density than the 3G and thus the same resolution in order to prevent this issue?
