All this Mac vs PC subjective stereotyping is useless. [Cumulative] correlation does not mean causation.

I thought I would like the push for this, but I actually find it annoying. I have updates sent to me via text messaging and I think I like that better. At least I can turn it off if I don't like it which is nice.

:confused::confused:In-app purchase can be disabled using parental control. This is stupid. I expect my tax to be used by my government to tackle bigger problems, oh maybe like jobs and the economy, not to appease some idiot "parents."

Oh, and another thing cpu manufacturors demonstrate maxed out cpu fairly frequently this is done to show the potential of a cpu not that they're going in to production. I would be that they scoured production for months before they found one cpu that could achieve what they did with some kind of special cooling. They probably had the thing in a freezer with some kind of special gas instead of air to cool it.

Moto and IBM do demonstrations like this also.

yeah all of those will help. especially that new mac pro. but even then, unless we are more active on this forum, people won't join the team

Very much agree, we have had great new participation for new users, even 100-200 ppd from a user is great and still will help the team out.

Since begining again and having lower points, I have now 2 dangerous enemies that are trying to take me out, stay away daygokid619 and Oculus, I have to admit it really is fun and I will make sure that none of you overtake me so I have recruited my iBook and old P4 to give me an extra 200ppd :p

I might build a system soon as well as my main is getting really old, should be able to afford it in 3-6 months, what do you guys recommend, I am on a thight budget. Thinking an AMD Phenom with 4gb of ram and a Nvidea gtx260?

I've had my aging 17" 1 ghz powerbook for a long time now. Left audio stopped working about one and a half years ago, or that is when I noticed it. I wasn't prudent enough to have an extended applecare plan, and left sound didn't really matter, so I never took my powerbook in.

After the recent Leopard update, my Powerbook has once again been outputting stereo sound!:D I noticed it while watching the new Mac ads.

I don't know what kind of posh school would buy iPads! What would they do with them? Hand them out to students and go "hey guys, free iPad!" or would they allow students to browse the web during lessons? Or is it only to read books? In that case, books are cheaper, and offer a more book-like experience... don't they? The idea of school text books being available for the iPad is cool, allowing students to only carry the iPad around, but I don't think text books will get made into digital versions anytime this decade. Teachers usually want students to use books that were published like 5 years ago... I think a laptop would be more suitable for students, but only at university, not at school, since they don't allow you to submit typed text or study from the internet anyway.

I just want to say how much I both love and hate Macrumors. :)

Sent from my shiny new iPad just purchased from Verizon.

:) That is what my friend said about me. I turned him on to this deal and he bought one.

because it's turned on by default. it should be off by default (IMO) and then turned on as an option. many people aren't aware that Facebook's new "features" are almost always on when rolled out.

Can anyone confirm this? It's so annoying when new features are turned on by default. I guess I just need to delete my account. I have a fb, but never check it, but I keep it around just because I get an email if somebody sends me a message on there and then I contact them back. Facebook is just awful, worst mistake signing up for it. If you don't have one DON'T GET ONE!!

    http://www.macrumors.com/images/macrumorsthreadlogo.gif (http://www.macrumors.com)

Commercial Times claims (http://www.digitimes.com/systems/a20061010PR204.html) that Foxconn Electronics has received notebook orders from Apple and volume shipments of one new MacBook model by the of the year.

While the news is being reported by Digitimes, the source of the information is Commercial Times, a Chinese-language paper, which in turn cites Vincent Chen, an analyst at Credit Lyonnais Securities Asia.

While this report only addresses a new MacBook model, rumors continue to claim (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/10/20061006190658.shtml) that MacBook Pro and MacBook updates are planned before the holiday season.

I'm no expert, but I don't think this would be ideal for hosting a site on. You would have logon to access files.

I don't think such a thing would work.

It's very strange that they are not supported if they are so popular. Perhaps they are not very popular in other countries?

That's why aperture gets such bad press in pro photography circles man.

Anyone have a sub to the CR online that could copy + paste the story for us?

If this isn't "allowed," my apologies; I'd just like to give it a gander.

    Cheers,

Thanks AidenShaw. Good idea. I need to get familiar with the BART. You are right about no traffic related worry. I will also consider taking it to get to the hotel instead of taking a cab. Thx.

picture the 80gb ipod, in its current form factor.... that slides down like the LG Chocolate does, to expose a full qwerty keyboard... sweet

Hmm...I have a feeling both the iPhone and iPhone Pro will be flash-based though. But I think you're right they will both be slider phones. I think the iPhone "slim" phone will basically be like a shorter, wider iPod nano with a slightly larger screen and a slide-out keyboard - so it will be about twice the thickness of a nano. The larger iPhone Pro will be like a narrower iPod, maybe with a portrait screen orientation instead of landscape, and will again have a slide-out keyboard. I expect that the iPhone will have something like 2 GB and the iPhone Pro something like 4 GB or even 8 GB. I would be pleasantly surprised if either of these models had any expandable storage, but I doubt it. I think they will initially launch without expandable storage, and then add it later in the second generation of iPhones...

    No spy chips, thank you.

    http://spychips.com

Umm. Doesn't my cellphone already have a unique identify number that it comuncates with my carrier while it is switched on and tells them where I am within the cell network. (And with the GPS chip I can be pin-pointed withing a couple of meters).

Ummm... I wonder..... Does Apple track when ever a iPhone onwer enters a Apple Store, Or Wallmart? They have the technology.

Is there a way to specify which comments you get push notifications for? I'm interested in get pn for comments my updates but not really interested in getting pn for my friends status update which I comment on. E-mails are fine for those.

    Anyone know? Thanks.

Yep, I really thing that Facebook is going to go down with all this crap they are doing.

Microsoft's rep = crashing and copying Mac
Facebook's rep = lack of privacy and opt out NOT opt in

Microsoft "went down" for copying the Mac OS? When?

Facebook is not going to "go down" for a long time. Faceboook replaced Myspace which replaced Livejournal which replaced SubProfile, and each stuck around longer than the one before it. Hell, half of that list still refuses to die.

I agree to some point though with most here. Telling everyone where you are at any time is a horrible idea. If you don't want to do it though, just don't use it. Simple as that. Always has been, always will.

"Don't want to do it? Then don't do it."

I worked for what was then called Cingular and was in the New York section, and I can honestly tell you New Yorkers are a breed of their own. We got calls constantly about dropped signals, but when probed it was because they were in a subway. Towers are abundant in the NYC area so it is amazing they have discontinued them.

New Yorkers probably and appreciate the iPhone more than anyone else who has them.
